Kate McNeil in Beach House

In 1982, Kate McNeil appeared in her first feature film, a low-budget teen comedy called Beach House. The movie was about two groups of teenagers from different backgrounds, one from New York City and the other from Philadelphia, who must share the same the beach house due to a mix-up.

Let me begin by saying that I watched the movie and enjoyed it. I thought it was fun and not to be taken too seriously as some people that have reviewed the film have certainly done. Yes, the film has no budget and is admittedly a bit of a mess. However, Beach House has a good vibe, lots of humor and some fun characters. Plus, Kate McNeil in a two-piece swimsuit! She looks great in the film and somehow winds up right in the middle of the bizarre climax of the movie.

The following year, The House on Sorority Row was released and offered Kate McNeil the chance to take the starring role in a feature film. Beach House, however, remains a great little movie and a delightful start to Kate McNeil's film career.

In 1988, Kate McNeil starred in her second horror film (the first was The House on Sorority Row) Monkey Shines, alongside Jason Beghe and John Pankow.

In 1988, Kate McNeil co-starred in George A. Romero's Monkey Shines, a horror film about a man (played by Jason Beghe) in a wheelchair who gets a genetically modified helper monkey that eventually starts terrorizing the people in the man's life. Kate McNeil plays the monkey-trainer who falls in love with Jason Beghe's character.

This was Kate McNeil's second horror film. She had previously appeared in The House on Sorority Row, which was released in 1983.

Kate McNeil in The House on Sorority Row

In early 1983, The House on Sorority Row starring a young Kate McNeil (billed as Kathryn McNeil) was released. The movie was filmed earlier in 1982 and apparently writer/director Mark Rosman had a somewhat hard time getting it to theaters. In the meantime, Kate McNeil had a role on the soap opera As the World Turns and had another movie, the low-budget comedy Beach House, come out in 1982.

Kate McNeil is top-billed in The House on Sorority Row and as such plays the central character in the film. Her character, Katherine, is the sorority sister with a conscience and the counterpart of Vicki (played by future soap star Eileen Davidson), the girl who causes all the trouble. When Vicki accidentally kills the sorority's house mother, Katherine is the only one who thinks it might be a good idea to contact the authorities. As events escalate during the process of covering up the shooting, Katherine is again the lone person who thinks it just might be best call the police. Eventually, however, when things have gone too far even Katherine decides to hang up on a phone call she makes to the police, showing that she is not honest to a fault.

The House on Sorority Row is the only time (that I know of) that Kate McNeil appears as a brunette, choosing blonde shades for the rest of her career.
